Brett Favre
It's hard to say which is greater about former University of Southern Mississippi quarterback Brett Favre: his greatness or his durability. He is the only National Football League player to have won the NFL MVP award three times, 1995-97! But then he is also the only NFL quarterback to have started over 220 consecutive games (and counting!) – 241 including post-season games (and counting?)!
After spending his rookie season with the Atlanta Falcons, Brett Favre became the Green Bay Packers' quarterback, becoming the starter in September, 1992 ... and hasn't missed a start since! He is second only behind Dan Marino – the only other member of the 400 Touchdown Club™ – in the major passing categories: passing yards, attempts, completions and touchdowns ... having surpassed the 400 TD milestone in the 2006 season. Depending upon how much longer Favre plays, he may surpass Marino to become #1 in all those categories!
Though Brett Favre is a certain first-ballot Hall of Fame member when he does decide to retire from his lifetime contract with the Green Bay Packers, there is another dimension to his success. Favre has become one of the most popular football players in history, ranking #1 in the NFL according to a 2006 Harris Poll. Even other players in the NFL, and even fans of the Packers' rivals, admire this tough, gutsy, successful quarterback. And for Packer fans, what's not to like? So far he's brought Green Bay 10 postseason appearances, including six division crowns, three NFC Championship Games, two Super Bowls and a World Championship with a victory in Super Bowl XXXI.
